What Is an EMOM Workout?
EMOM stands for Every Minute on the Minute. At the beginning of each minute, you complete a prescribed exercise or number of repetitions. Any time remaining before the next minute becomes your recovery period.
For example, if you complete 12 kettlebell swings in 35 seconds, you have 25 seconds to recover before the next round begins.
EMOM workouts can combine strength exercises, bodyweight movements, cardio equipment, or mixed conditioning. The interval can also be extended beyond one minute for exercises that require more time.
Standard EMOM Structure
Round interval: 1 minute
Work: Complete the assigned exercise
Rest: Use the remaining time in the minute
Rounds: Based on the intended workout duration
Total time: Interval duration × number of rounds
A 10-round EMOM with one-minute intervals lasts 10 minutes. An 8-round workout starting every 90 seconds lasts 12 minutes.
How to Use the EMOM Timer
Set how many minutes and seconds each round should last.

What does EMOM mean?
EMOM means Every Minute on the Minute. A new exercise or round starts at the beginning of each minute.
How does an EMOM timer work?
The timer starts a new round at a fixed interval. You complete the assigned exercise and use the remaining time before the next round as recovery.
Does an EMOM always use one-minute intervals?
A classic EMOM starts every minute, but similar workouts can use longer intervals such as every 90 seconds, every 2 minutes, or every 3 minutes. The Movrox timer lets you set both minutes and seconds.
How long should an EMOM workout be?
Many EMOM workouts last between 10 and 30 minutes, but the appropriate duration depends on the exercises, training goal, intensity, and experience level.
What happens if I cannot finish before the next minute?
Reduce the number of repetitions, use a lighter load, simplify the movement, or increase the interval. Repeatedly missing the interval usually means the prescribed work is too demanding for the selected pace.
Are EMOM workouts suitable for beginners?
EMOM workouts can be adjusted by choosing simple exercises, using manageable repetition targets, lowering the load, increasing the interval, or reducing the total number of rounds.
